Coy Lee Whitener born July 30th, 1937 to Sydney Otto Whitener and his wife Jewel in Cave City, AR. Passed from this life on February 28th ,2020 in San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Jewel Whitener and a brother, Donald Whitener. He is survived by his wife Lyda, daughter Cindy Warren and her husband Joe of San Antonio, Texas, his son Dr. Mark Whitener and his wife Teresa of Wichita, KS, brother Larry Whitener and his wife Misty of Paris, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Coy married the love of his life Lyda Lee Robinson on October 8th ,1955 in Paris, Texas.
Coy graduated from Baptist Bible College, Springfield, MO. In 1971 with a bachelor’s in Theology. He obtained his Master’s degree in Christian Counseling from Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA. He graduated from Baptist Christian University, Shreveport, LA. In 1984 with a PhD in Philosophy.
Coy served his pastoral duties in Arkansas City, KS; Arthur City, TX; Grand Saline, TX. Coy returned to Arkansas City, KS. Where he was the director of the Pregnancy Crisis Center. He concluded his 39 years of ministry as Pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Ponca City, OK.
His delight was in counseling and teaching God’s Word. He and Lyda moved to San Antonio in 2011 to be near their daughter after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He was a member of True Life Church in Universal City, Texas where his son-in-law, Joe Warren is the Pastor.
