Edward Cecil "Ed" Burton

Edwin Cecil Burton of San Antonio, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 6, 2023, at the age of 85 after a very short battle with cancer. Ed was born on August 6, 1937, in Star City, Arkansas and grew up in Arkansas.

Ed served in the United Stated Air Force from February 23, 1955, to August 22, 1963. In July of 1971 Ed went to work for Associated Milk Producers, Inc. as a computer programmer. He worked there for 27 years, retiring in 1998.

On March 1, 1975, Ed went on his first date with Norman Jean. According to Ed, she asked him out! It must’ve been a really good date because on March 21st he asked her to marry him and she said, “Yes” and they married 3 ½ MONTHS later on July 3, 1975.

Ed was a hardworking man, always willing to help or at least do what Norman told him to do 😊 and he loved his family. What most people don’t know about Ed is that he loved to sing. When he was younger, he would sing with his older brother, Jimmy at various “honky tonks” as they were known back then. He had a great bass voice. After he came to know the Lord, he sang in the church choir. Ed served as treasurer for STGMA, South Texas Gospel Music Association and thoroughly enjoyed southern gospel music. The only thing Ed loved more than Jesus, his wife, and family, and music was his food. As he would tell you, “When you are the youngest of 9 children, you learn to eat when the food is on the table.”

He is preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Burton of 47 years. His siblings, Garvin Ray, Olgia Lanon, Charles Willis “Buddy”, Elsie Verdell, Willie Mae, James Curtis, Jannie Bell, and Opal Lee and his parents, Lenwood and Nannie Burton.

Ed is survived by his stepdaughter Loretta Martin (husband Ray); grandson Brennan “Monkey League; and multiple nieces, nephews, and friends.

Much like Norman, Ed would tell you he had a good life and he enjoyed life, especially the food part of life. He enjoyed the simple things in life. He liked watching Nascar and attending Southern Gospel concerts. He also enjoyed cruising the seas with his wife Norma.

Ed lost the love of his life 6 weeks and 2 days prior to him being called home. He told her repeatedly the last week she was with us that he couldn’t do this without her and now he doesn’t have to. They attended church together for the first time in a very long time on May 7th! I’m sure they have not quit holding hands and talking to all their loved ones that had gone on before them. They are together again, and we will them again someday.

The family suggest that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the charity of ones choice.
