Elsa Victoria Cruz

September 1, 1959 – February 6, 2020

On February 6, 2020, in Houston, Texas, Elsa Victoria Cruz was pronounced dead at the age of 60.  She is survived by her son, David O. Rodriguez; daughters, Xiomara Rodriguez and husband Pedro; Joannie Gonzalez and husband Omar; Karina Chappell and husband Matthew; Sophia Rodriguez; as well as 17 grandchildren, all whom she adored.

She is also survived by both parents, father, Juan Cruz and mother, Alejandrina Rodriguez de Cruz; sisters, Margarita Mejia, Martina Cruz, Beatriz Cruz, and Dilcia Cruz; brothers, Reynaldo Cruz, Oscar Cruz, and Jaime Cruz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Elsa was an independent woman of many trades.  Once her mind was set on something, there was nothing that could stop her from achieving her goal.  She was a skilled seamstress who was always known for having the best-dressed children at Church.  Elsa herself was also known to be consistently dressed in the finest handmade couture.  She had an unequivocal love for decorating and singing, a passion that spread and has been instilled in her children. She was an amazing home-maker and renowned for her superb talent in the kitchen; her secret ingredient was love.

Elsa was a devoted mother of five, whose greatest accomplishment was raising her children equipped with unconditional love and the fear of God.  Despite all her tribulations, Elsa taught us all that forgiveness is a gift from God and that God is love.  She was a princess of God, a sister, and a daughter, but most importantly, a devoted Mother.  In addition to raising her own children, she stepped in whenever possible, providing a mother figure to many sons and daughters in need.  She whole-heartedly and willingly provided shelter, food, and love for those who had known and sought her nurturing spirit. Many often claim her as a second mother.  She was the most loving and compassionate person you could have ever known.  Her smile would brighten your day, and she had a special way of making you feel that you were loved and important.  She had a song for every occasion, a joke or riddle to make you laugh, and she always found a way to gladden you no matter your situation.  She will be forever loved and forever remembered as the strongest spiritual woman, daughter, sister and Mother.
