Hortensia “Monica” Guerra
May 4, 1960 `~ May 3, 2022

Monica Guerra of San Antonio, Texas, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on Tuesday, May 3rd.
Monica attended Robert E. Lee and Wilshire Elementaries, Krueger Middle and Roosevelt High Schools, graduating in 1978. While at Roosevelt, Monica loved her first job as hostess at McDonald’s on Broadway, greeting customers and refreshing their coffee; she was truly a people person. Always looking forward, she went to work for the City of San Antonio as a legal secretary. In 1982, she began her DoD career at Kelly Air Force Base. In 1996, she transferred to Office Automation at Randolph Air Force Base. She then joined the Air Force Personnel Center Benefits and Entitlements Service Team in 2002 from which she took an early retirement in 2012. During her over 30 years of service with the DoD she earned many awards and recognitions.

Monica had a love for music like no one else. Bruce Springsteen and Rod Stewart had no greater fan than Monica, and you could include the Cowboys and “my Spurs” too. She had the pleasure of traveling to Mexico countless times to visit family & sightsee and visited Europe twice. Those who knew her well, know that she loved the city of Paris passionately.

Monica was born again and baptized by the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ as a member of Oak Hills Church in 2008.

Succumbing to renal failure in 2012, she became an avid crafter with a vast fanbase on Facebook while taking care of our Mother in her final years.

Monica was preceded in death by her brother Ramiro Guerra, her nephew Abraham D. Guerra III, and our parents, Abraham and Herminia Guerra of Monterrey, Mexico. She is survived by her siblings Javier Aurora) V. Guerra, Abraham (Dolores) Guerra Jr., Diana (JR) Erdman. Ramiro (Cindy) Guerra; nieces and nephews whom she greatly treasured Nina Alexis (Rafael) Padilla, Fernando (Rachel) Guerra, Dennis Alan and Jason Erdman, Alexis Victoria, and Dominic Abraham Guerra; great niece Jordyn, and great nephews Grayson & Xerminio.

Monica’s beloved Shih-Tzu “Rocky” is being cared for by her niece Nina and is adjusting well.

She was always very appreciative of her entire team at Fresenius Kidney Care Westover Hills.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to the American Kidney Fund who helped Monica in various ways over her eight-and-a-half-year battle with kidney failure: www.kidneyfund.org
