James Gabriel Garza, age 23, of San Antonio, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, July 5, 2021. James was born on June 8, 1998, premature at 32 weeks. He was born to Ramiro Garza III and Cathy Lopez. James was the oldest of three children and was your typical baby boy. He was full of life, an abundance of energy taking both mom and dad to keep up with him, and had an inquisitive mind asking a million ‘why’ questions.
James graduated from Earl Warren High School – Class of 2016. During his high school years, James was active in the marching band where he mastered the art of the trumpet and was also a member of the JROTC. James was more than a good student and friend. He was a friend to everyone and a leader amongst his peers. His eternal optimism and positive attitude made people gravitate to James and he was the glue that kept his circle of friends together. James never asked for anything but meant everything to so many. His sense of humor was one of a kind (and sometimes a little bizarre). But he got people laughing and that is all he ever wanted, was for people to smile.
Those who knew James best will remember his love of anything SciFi, especially Star Wars and Avengers, playing on his X Box, building computers and especially creating memes for everyone to find a good laugh. Only a select few will get to remember the love James had for his beloved family and friends and the light he brought into their lives. James’ loss has forever shifted their world and completely changed the course of their lives. James’ smile and his unique personality will forever be rooted in their memories.
James is survived by his father, Ramiro Garza III, of San Antonio; mother, Cathy Thomas, and husband Eli, of San Antonio, siblings, Ciara Garza and Matthew Garza; grandparents, Ramiro Garza, Jr, Yolanda Garza, Rosa Gomez, and husband Armando, great-grandmother Gloria Contreras, his beloved cat, Jimmy; and a host of aunts/uncles and very special friends.
James was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Juan Contreras, and by his great aunt, Leticia Contreras.
