Jose Higinio Guerrero

February 12, 1946 — December 8, 2018

February 12, 1946 – December 08, 2018

Jose (Joe) Higinio Guerrero, a Catholic who loved God, his family, menudo and fishing passed away on December 08, 2018 after a long battle against dementia and heart disease. He was reunited with his parents and son Jose H. Guerrero JR.  He was born on February 12, 1946 in Normanna, Texas to Higinio and Josefa Guerrero. He grew up in Normanna and was doted on by his parents and grandparents.

In his 20’s he moved to Beeville and was known for his hard work, fast cars and charisma with the ladies. He was a jack of all trades and a master of many. He was a roughneck, mechanic, heavy equipment operator, farmer, and a carpenter who built a home with his own two hands.

By the time he reached his 30’s he met the love of his life and married Elizabeth Bridge. He and his wife lived in Normanna for a few years in the home he built raising his daughters and raising farm animals. He planted a beautiful pink and red rose garden for his wife and daughters.

As the months and years passed by, circumstances changed, because life always changes. During his 40’s he spent much of his time raising his daughter Rachel. He was a picture-perfect father who absolutely adored, loved, and spoiled his daughter. If you were looking for Joe you could either find him with his daughter in Aransas Pass on late night fishing trips, or getting ice cream at the Dairy Mart, or the Klipstein Park pushing his daughter on the swings or just letting her play. If they weren’t together in those places, then you would have found them shopping at the mall or enjoying the outdoors together.

He loved the earth, nature, and animals. He loved hearing the bird’s songs early in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee. One of his favorite animals was the raccoon. He caught many raccoons just to feed them food and candies for a week before releasing them. He cherished the times he spent watching sunsets while fishing in the Gulf. Taking long walks in the woods made him very happy.

Years kept going by and as they did, he had grandchildren that he adored and treasured.  He would spend as much time as he could with his grandchildren and made sure he was there for every birthday and major holiday. Christmas was his favorite holiday.  Joe enjoyed seeing the holiday lights and his favorite place to visit during Christmas time was the River Walk in San Antonio.  He also enjoyed going to mass at the Mission Church on Christmas Eve with his daughter.

This is just a synopsis of Jose Higinio Guerrero’s life.  He was a brother, a husband, an uncle, a grandfather, great-grandfather and the greatest of these titles was father. He is survived by his daughters Rachel Cecilia Guerrero, Anna Liza Warner, and Joan Guerrero King, grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann, Mikhail Andrew, Jacob Louis, Ashlyn Grace, and Anthony James, siblings, Cruz Guerrero, Maria Perez, Jesus Guerrero, Gloria Castro, and Juanita Stump.

My dad’s quick wit, sarcasm, high energy, and sense of humor will be missed. The love he gave from his heart will be missed even more. My dad was my hero and always came to my rescue. He told me to never be afraid of anything in this world and when his time came to look to the stars because he would be flying near them. When night falls and everything is still, I will look to the sky and if I should see a shooting star, I will know my dad is near. I was blessed to have called such a wonderful, caring, loving man, my dad.

Thank you to Estevan and Ruth Guerrero, who are hosting the wake in Seguin after the burial.

A special thank you to Elizabeth Bridge, who contributed so many beautiful things to my dad’s life, including paying for my dad’s final expenses.
