Karen Dreher

On November 4, 2022, Karen Lorraine Dreher entered into eternal rest after a lengthy battle with complications from COVID-19.  She was 73 years of age.

Karen was born on June 22, 1949 in Vallejo, CA.  She graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX in 1971 where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Upon graduating Karen began employment at Brooke Army Medical Center-Beach Pavilion in San Antonio as a Certified Oncology Nurse Specialist.  She received numerous certificates of commendation distinguishing herself as an exceptional oncology nurse.  Throughout her 30-year nursing career she was recognized for delivering high quality care to her patients and was instrumental in the education and mentoring of her nursing staff.  Karen was known to be more than just a nurse to many of her patients.  Many also considered her a friend, advocate and overall caring person that touched all who came across her path.

Known for her big smile and infectious laugh, she had a zest for life and deep love for her family.  Her hobbies included traveling, cooking, sewing, making jewelry, socializing around a good meal and spending the holidays with her family.  She was very supportive of her children and always put her family first.  Now she is our angel and will remain in our hearts forever.

Karen is survived by her children, Courtney Elizabeth Dreher-Greening, (husband) Richard Greening of Raleigh, NC and James Julius Dreher of San Antonio, TX.  Surviving siblings are Godfrey Stephen Epperson, Cynthia Annette Epperson of San Antonio, Teri JoAnn Melonson (Husband) Allan Gordon Meonson of Houston, TX and Stacy Denise Epperson of San Antonio, TX.  She was preceded in death by parents Nancy Naomi Epperson and Thomas Canard Epperson.  Her siblings, Susan Elizabeth Watson and Thomas Canard Epperson, Jr. preceded her as well.    She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great- nephews.
