Larry Harber

May 7, 1946 — October 6, 2019

Larry Dean Harber, born on May 7, 1946 to Eldridge E. Harber Sr. and Peggy H. Harber (nee Winegeart), passed away on October 6, 2019 in San Antonio, TX.  Larry was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, and had one older sibling, Eldridge E. Harber Jr.  He began his career in 1966 at San Antonio’s Kelly Air Force Base in the machine shop rebuilding aircraft engines, and was a member of the Texas National Guard.  Larry then went on to serve as an Airfield Firefighter at Kelly for 26 years, for a total of 32 years of Civil Service.  He retired as a Crew Chief in 1998.

Larry met his future wife Linda D. Harber (nee Dial) while they were still in high school; Larry went to Judson High School and Linda went to Highlands High School.  They were married in 1969, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May of 2019.  They had two children, Bryan D. Harber and Darren W. Harber, and enjoyed many years of attending Bryan’s band concerts and marching competitions, Darren’s football games and karate competitions, many other school and life events, and watching them graduate from The University of Texas and The University of Texas San Antonio respectively.  He would always “grin and bear it” when Linda would play bunco or have him escort her to an arts and crafts show.

Throughout his life Larry made many fun filled fishing and boating trips to the Texas coast with first his father and mother, and then with the rest of his family as it grew.  He always enjoyed spending time with his brother Eldridge shooting at targets, and later going to the gun range with his son Darren.  He liked watching and reading science fiction and westerns, listening to 50’s and 60’s rock and roll and country and western music, and looking at and enjoying classic muscle cars.  And Larry loved Christmastime, as he enjoyed putting up the outdoor decorations every year; always looking for something new to add.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Eldridge and Peggy, and his brother Eldridge.  He is survived by his wife Linda, his son Bryan, his son and daughter-in-law Darren and Misty M. Harber and their son (Larry’s grandson) Darren W. Harber Jr., numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends.
