Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Perez) Hernandez was born on March 31, 1960 in San Antonio, Texas. Our sweet Liz gained her angel wings on May 10, 2022 at the age of 62, when our Heavenly Father called her home. Liz, whom we affectionally nicknamed “Lita,” was proceeded in death by her parents, Ms. Petra G. Perez and Mr. On Wong, her eldest brother, Joe Perez, and beloved son, Guadalupe (Lupito) Hernandez Jr., nephew Baby Michael Wesley Webb, and great nephew Baby Juan Castillo IV, all of whom welcomed her into the gates of Heaven.

Liz was blessed with a loving family. She is survived by the love of her life, her loving husband, Guadalupe (Lupe) A. Hernandez. They were married on August 8th, 2000 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Together, they blended a beautiful family with their children, Antoinette Flores (Alexander Munoz), Valerie Avila (Thomas Avila Jr.), and India Edel (Jake D. Edel) and precious grandchildren, Aracely Avila, Matthew Avila, Ethan Edel, Jayson Edel, and Angel Flores.

She is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Gilbert Perez (Patricia), Annie Perez (Beloved Bob), Mary Margaret Suarez (Simon), Sandy Pena, Yolanda Valdez (Carlos), JoAnn Mercado (Alex) and Mary Webb (Beloved Ron).

Aunt Liz was like a second mom to a host of nieces and nephews and would often babysit them and eventually their own children alike as they were near and dear to her heart.

From wedding dresses, hemming skirts for events, and most of all her love for gifting hand sewn blankets with love, Liz enjoyed sewing. As a graduate of Fox Tech High School, Liz learned to sew and made prom dresses and outfits for her siblings. She became the head cheerleader and took such pride in that role.

Liz attended college and pursued a career in Accounting in which she excelled at throughout the years. She was the most devoted mother always present and supportive in all of her children’s endeavors. You would see her at the Roosevelt Football games watching Valerie dance and attending color guard and Ballet Folklorico for her daughter India. Her most favorite role was being a grandma. She enjoyed volunteering at school functions, fundraisers, concerts, and any events that the grandchildren and their friends were a part of.

Liz was so giving that she became an honorary member of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. where she volunteered her time and efforts while her daughter, Antoinette, attended college. There she became a second mom, or mom away from home, to many of the sisters.

Her favorite past times were fishing, baking, crafting, spending time with family, and traveling. Her joys were when she spent time with her sisters shopping, having lunch, and laughing so hard until they cried while riding together on road trips.

She has never met a stranger. Anyone who had the opportunity to meet her in any capacity, became a better person for knowing her. Liz was a wonderful woman that meant so much to so many people. She gave selflessly, offered all that she had, and lovingly shared her gifts with others. Liz devoted several years to caring for her beloved mother and we take solace in knowing that they are now reunited in Heaven. Although she is sorely missed, Heaven gained a sweet angel and her love will continue to shine.
