Roy Escobar

November 12, 1945 — October 10, 2021

Hutto

Roy Flores Escobar, 75, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Hutto, Texas, on October 10, 2021. He was born November 12, 1945, in Ballinger, TX to Fermin, Sr. and Jessie Escobar and was a retired foreman with the Union Pacific Railroad.

Roy knew no strangers. Life was a stage, and he was more than willing to be the star of the show. A comedian in his everyday interactions, he brought smiles and laughter to those around him. He enjoyed bowling in his local league, bingo calling, line-dance instructing, umpiring, and watching sports.

Until his last day, Roy spent his life doing what he loved most: attending St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hutto, eating at his favorite Mexican restaurant, spending time at a baseball field with family and friends, and watching his Cowboys and Astros play.

A talented baseball player like his father before him, he grew up with a love for the game. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren on the field. He is remembered fondly by his children as the “neighborhood dad”.

Roy Escobar was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maria Escobar; brothers, Danny and Sammy Escobar; brother-in-law Eddie Lopez; and sister-in-law Maria Escobar.

He is survived by his five children from his first marriage to Louisa Escobar: Rosemary Escobar of Hutto, TX; Martha Nwaneri and husband Billy, Austin; Amy Escobar and spouse Ronnie Hester, Sweetwater; Danny Escobar and wife Nancy, Sweetwater; and Lupe Randall and husband Michael, San Marcos; a daughter, Lisa Brown, Ballinger; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; siblings: Gloria Lopez, Eloisa Escobar, Fermin Escobar, Jr., Josie Gomez and husband Robert, Sr., Alex Escobar, Joe Escobar and wife Mickie, Fred Escobar, and Janie Escobar; and four step-children: Juan, Melida, Miguel, and Becky Castillo. The family also wishes to acknowledge Mary Lou Patino, who meant so much to Roy in his last months.
